What started as one man's ranch, Zilker Park has grown to become the crown jewel of Austin parks system through a series of gifts in the early 1900s. The park is comprised of 350 acres of public land that boarders the Colorado River and includes attractions like Barton Springs Pool, Zilker Botanical Garden and the Umlauf Sculpture Garden. It's also the location of many of Austin's greatest festivals including the Zilker Park Kite Festival, Austin City Limits and the Zilker Holiday Tree lighting ceremony.  

Things to Know Before You Go to Zilker Park

• Zilker Hillside Theater hosts regular performances by local theatre troops and concerts from jazz to country. Bring a blanket to sit on the hillside
• Hours: 5:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
• Zilker Holiday Tree lighting ceremony occurs on the first Sunday in December at 6:00 p.m.
• Zilker Park Kite Festival is held the first Sunday in March
• Other activities and attractions include canoeing on Town Lake, hike and bike trails, sand volleyball courts, a nine-hole disc golf course, two multi-use fields and more
• Omni Austin Hotel at Southpark is located about 15 minutes away by car
